Yes — that’s the whole point of Tally’s free tool. When you drop a file in, the parsing, the recomputation, and the reconciliation all run in your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to a server. You get every figure checked against its source without the file ever leaving your machine.

Does Tally store my data?

No. There is no upload, no account, and nothing to store — because your spreadsheet never reaches us in the first place. This isn’t a promise not to look at your data; it’s an architecture where we physically never receive it.

How can it verify my file if it never sees it?

Accepted Answer

Modern browsers can do the work locally. Tally reads the .xlsx (using the browser’s built-in decompression, no external libraries), re-adds every figure from the raw rows, and compares — all in the page you have open. The verification engine runs on your device, not on ours, so privacy and proof aren’t a trade-off.

If I share a verified version, is that private too?

Yes. When you share a “✓ Verified” link, only the figures and their receipts are shared — never the whole workbook — and they’re encrypted in your browser first. The decryption key rides the link’s fragment, which browsers never send to a server, so the recipient can open it but we can’t read it.
